Never Too Old to Travel

Many older people are experiencing empty nest syndrome and some say it feels pretty good, because not long afterward comes retirement, and dreams of travel begin to formulate.

The bad news is with today's economy, the cost of travel makes it nearly impossible for those who have worked all their lives to just take it easy and see the world. It's nearly impossible, but only nearly. Let's look at some of the ways senior adults can enjoy their retirement without just staying at home.

Many businesses give senior discounts but you have to ask. Most of the major hotels for example save a certain number of rooms just for seniors, not to mention the discounted cost of the rooms. Airlines will provide discounts to older folks who are willing to fly standby.

Making arrangements for your travels over the internet can save you a lot of money. Be sure to indicate that you are a senior adult and again, a discount will be yours. Don't forget to ask restaurants if they have senior menus. When planning your trip, be sure to check with the American Automobile Association about senior discounted fares.

One of the best investments senior adults can make is to join the American Association of Retired Persons. Using the information that AARP provides you can plan for and have a very enjoyable vacation.

Just because you are a senior adult doesn't mean you need to always be on the lookout for discounts. People in good health can make arrangements to do some work while on vacation, thereby making some money while seeing the sights of a place you've never been before.
