How to Save Money While Traveling

A good way to start saving money when traveling outside the country is to travel off-season. Cruises and airfares are generally cheaper from fall through early spring. If you really want to be frugal, take a bus to the city of international departure, rather than spending the money on airfare. You may find that it is an adventurous experience.

When you arrive at your destination, have breakfast at your hotel, if it is offered. Most hotels offer some kind of breakfast, either in-room or in the concierge's office. You can also pack snacks and protein bars in your suitcase to avoid frequent stops for food.

Do not skimp on bottled water. The tap water in foreign countries will usually make you sick, depending on where you go. However, buy bottled water at convenience stores or grocery stores, near your hotel. You will find a better price than if you buy it at your hotel or at a restaurant.

Venture forth from your hotel for souvenirs, as well. They will be less expensive than at the hotel gift shop. Vendors in a lot of countries encourage negotiating over the price of goods. This is a good way to save money on souvenirs and gifts. You may feel uncomfortable doing it at first, but don’t worry; the locals probably do it too.

There are a lot of budget travel deals on the internet. You can get a lot of good deals on hotel prices, airfare, and cruises. You may have to do some searching, but it is worth the effort. Some sites will show you a list of prices for airfares for your selected vacation time. This will allow you to pick among the offerings for times and prices that suit your needs.
