When traveling, there are many discounts to be had for seniors, if you know to look for them. Timing has a lot to do with how large the savings may be. For instance, if the traveler wishes to visit a winter resort in the fall or spring, or summer resort during the off season, better rates are the norm.
Flying to your destination, joining travel clubs, or researching flights available on the internet is time and money well spent. Avoid flying on days immediately before or after a big holiday. Try to book your flight for very early in the morning or late at night. These flights are always less expensive than those during the day.
Group memberships are another great way to acquire senior discounts. Veterans organizations have many hotels around the world with greatly reduced rates. Military retirees can oftentimes catch a “hop” on military or contracted aircraft. Other organizations such as AARP provide many opportunities for seniors. If the intention is to use an RV, then joining Good Sam will provide a 10% savings at many campgrounds and provide a discount on fuel and restaurant orders at all Petro Stopping Centers.
For discounts on movies, theaters, parks and other places, try going as a group. Often these locations offer discount prices for groups. Always ask for a senior discount or a senior menu. Be careful, though; many times the senior discount is not really the best deal. Look around, because if seats are not filled and rooms are not booked, last minute specials or promotional offers can become available at prices even better than the senior discount.
