Holidays with family are usually times that are cherished. Not all families live close enough that they can drive less then 30 minutes to visit. Some people live across the country and so they have to travel, sometimes for days. There is a way to make the trip a little more enjoyable. If you have to travel for the holidays, make it a road trip of fun.
Depending on where you have to travel, a little research about the towns you'll be passing through will help you weigh your options. You may even decide to map out a different path if you find a town that has an event you would like to attend. If it's the holiday season, there are many cities that have a "Parade of Lights." You can drive through the town with probably not much of a detour and look at all the beautiful Christmas lights. If you are traveling in states that have warm weather, there are some cities that have festivals during the holidays. They are loaded down with crafts and you could pick up some last minute gifts. If your traveling during Christmas and you don't have a lot of time, be sure to avoid the day of the Christmas Parade. They usually stop traffic through the main streets of the city.
Your holiday travel could turn out to be a very fun and exciting road trip. Research and planning could help you save time and money. If time and money is not an issue, you can just drive until you see something interesting.
