Many senior citizens are taking advantage of travel discounts these days and heading out on adventures like never before. It is important that these trips be well planned and that a checklist of essential items is prepared. Depending upon where the senior is traveling, some of these items may not be available.
Seniors must be sure to have sufficient prescription medications with them to last the entire trip. These prescriptions must also remain in their original bottles with the patient’s name. Health hazards that could be encountered on their travels would suggest that a mild laxative, antacid, and diarrheal medicine be packed for the trip. Other medical-related over-the-counter items to bring would include lubricating eye drops, pain relievers, and all-around cold medicine. A simple first-aid kit is excellent to carry along, also. Considering space available and the location to which the senior citizens are traveling, it is better to be safe than sorry in carrying self-care items. If hearing aids or a diabetes meter are within your medical needs, be sure to carry an extra set of batteries. Eye glasses can get lost or broken, so be sure to pack a spare pair so you can continue to enjoy your travels.
Seniors should be sure to have important identification papers with them, as well as their passport, if leaving their native country. Limited amounts of cash should be carried and only one or two credit cards. Women love to accessorize, but leave real jewelry at home. Costume jewelry will provide the same well-dressed look without the bait to tempt thieves.
