Visiting Family

Young grandparents will usually visit their children and grandchildren when the little ones are small. It is easier for them to make the trip than for the parents with babies to travel. This is especially true for the holidays when the parents are planning for Santa and want to be in their home Christmas morning. Grandparents love to come and see the surprise on the faces of the little ones as they discover what Santa has brought them. Grandmothers usually brings some nourishing home baked cookies to share as the packages are being opened.

When the children are a little older and it is easier for them to travel without a lot of equipment and paraphernalia. It can be an exciting adventure for them to visit Grandmother and Grandfather in their home for the weekend. A family dinner will bring them together around the dining table where they can enjoy grandmother’s roast beef and mashed potatoes and home made apple pie. It is a time of building relationships and strengthening family ties. For many years the family will make reciprocal visits back and forth from one house to the other.

Finally a time will come, when Grandmother and Grandfather are no longer able to visit their children, because of age and health concerns. Then the younger generation will visit them in their home. In time, the grandchildren will have homes of their own and babies that will keep them there. This is the way visiting takes place in families.
