Believe it or not the holidays are fast approaching once again and it’s time to start negotiating the schedules as to whom you are going to visit and when.
Holidays are stressful enough, but today with families stretched out across the globe, finding time to visit everyone is difficult. Getting everyone in one place is simply impossible. As well, there is the decision regarding which side of the family do you visit. The first option, of course, is to go with the family that is closest. Can you visit one side during Thanksgiving and the other for Christmas, Hanukah, or other winter holiday. Not everyone can afford to travel and this has to be factored in as well. If it’s going to make a big dent in the budget and cause tension in your relationship, perhaps staying home and making your own traditions could be another option.
Family is especially important during the holiday season and perhaps you can create mini-excursions over the entire season to include everyone. That way no one feels left out and helps omit friction in a family before it gets started. You have to consider how much time you have off from work and how much time the kids have off from school as to how to manage family and travel throughout the holiday season.
Things have changed and families no longer live in close knit communities as they are scattered throughout the world. This makes getting everyone together for the holiday season tricky in a lot of cases. But with a little ingenuity, the holidays will be as good as ever.
