For most people, visiting family during the holidays can be fun as well as stressful. If family is out of state, then deciding if staying with the family or getting a motel is the biggest decision to be made. People who are married also have to decide which in-laws they are visiting this year. It is unrealistic to think that both sets of in-laws can be visited during one holiday.
Alternating the sides of the family visited during certain holidays such as Thanksgiving and Christmas, makes the celebrating easier. Not having to run from one set of relatives to the other is one way to ensure your visit is less stressful. Once a couple or even singles have started the cycle of alternating holidays, they can continue on a yearly basis.
Family visits during the holidays can be full of activities and fun for everyone. By planning early and getting airline and/or train tickets ahead of time, you can avoid the stress of last minute preparations. Getting plenty of rest is another important thing to remember during this time of year. If you want to avoid the stress of having the holiday celebration at home, then opt to go out to a restaurant or resort. This takes the stress off of any one person having to be responsible for planning the entire holiday festivities.
As with most things in life, avoiding stress is our biggest desire. If holidays can't be celebrated with family, try starting your own family tradition by just staying home.
