Visiting Family

In a study cited by MSNBC revealed that visiting family can warp your brain. Now who can argue with that? Truly a visit to family that you haven't seen in a year or more can be mind bending. Maybe your situation involves a holiday visit. Holidays can be very stressful and where children are involved it can be nearly unbearable. Many times during a holiday visit it may involve traveling with children. Careful planning must take place when traveling a long way with the kids. Be sure they can be occupied on the trip with their favorite things.

If you are visiting family for the first time with the children you must consider the situation when you arrive. Consider how long your visit will be and make plans to keep the kids occupied. They may get bored with a visit if they are not too familiar with the family you are going to visit. Be prepared for things to come up from the past. If you are visiting with a new spouse be prepared for revelations to the new member of the family about the former relationships of the spouse. This may not be the way it should go but it happens.

Remember time spent together with visiting family should be calm and planned for the comfort of all who are visiting and the visited. Make sure accommodations are compatible for the visitors and be sure the activities are relaxed and possibly not competitive between the family members. The one rule for visiting or being visited is that fish and family start stinking after three days.
