Senior Discounts While Traveling

The best way to find the least expensive travel deal is to go on the Internet. This is especially helpful if you don’t have a definite date to travel. It also works well if you are not too definite about your destination. Many hotels and resorts would rather take less money for a room than let it go vacant. The airlines would also prefer to have all seats taken. With the airlines, be sure to check on baggage charges since many have changed their rates recently.

Many seniors still prefer to travel by car and, of course, the high gas prices are hurting them. To save on gasoline, don’t buy top of the line. Also, stick with mid grade gasoline instead of premium. keep your car tuned regularly and change the air filter regularly. Use the recommended grade of motor oil for your automobile. Avoid sudden starts and stops, and do not drive over the speed limit. Do not carry excess weight in the trunk and do not let the car idle excessively.

Senior affinity groups such as AARP offer many savings opportunities for seniors. Many affinity groups offer huge discounts so the senior citizens can now enjoy that trip they had planned for so many years. Some local groups offer short trips to see local attractions at a very reasonable price. These could include a trip to the opera in a neighboring city or a trip to a museum especially planned for senior citizens. There are also groups who put on special plays for seniors.
