You feel you have put in your time working for others, so you took your retirement. Now the children are all grown and on their own. It is just the two of you and you have all this time together. Why not take a trip to Hawaii?
You could fly and the time would be shorter, but you would be squeezed into a seat with someone you don't even know for several hours. Why not consider a cruise? There are several different cruise lines that go to Hawaii. The Holland America and Norwegian cruise lines cater to retired people. You can cruise from California to Hawaii on a 15 day trip. Most cruises go to Honolulu, on the big island, but they include a tour of the smaller islands. They usually stop at ports on those islands with a stopover of eight hours for sightseeing.
If you have not seen a cruise ship recently, you will be surprised at the size of these new ships. They hold over 2000 passengers, plus the crew. The have all the amenities you could ever want. They are like a floating city all their own. You are treated like royalty and you will enjoy being pampered for a couple of weeks.
Most cruise ships feature excursions to the other islands for an additional fee, or you can go off on your own. Do your research before you go so you will know what your main points of interest are. You will never be any closer to paradise than in Hawaii.
