The Joys of Traveling for Retired Couples

Being retired is something most people look forward to their entire working lives, but once it is attained, the couple often discovers that they are stuck with each other every minute of every day and if they allow it, they can get on each others' nerves.

Couples should discuss retirement plans prior to the fact in order to avoid a situation where one spouse’s idea of a perfect retirement is golfing all day and the other wants to travel. If traveling is the agreed upon dream, your retirement can be exceptional. Even though this period in life can cause an entirely new dynamic, traveling is a great way to enjoy no kids, less stress, and more time to talk and get to know each other all over again.

Travel to some couples might not need to be any type of exotic or out of the ordinary trip at all. It might simply be to visit the children and spend extended time with the grandchildren, visit with friends that have not been seen for years or explore your own country via automobile. Another advantage to any kind of travel is that, as a senior, it is less expensive. The couple finds themselves doing more activities because, let’s face it, everyone likes discounts.

A very common first trip together is a cruise. One of the main attractions is the wide variety of activities on the ship. While one spouse is reading under the blue skies, the other can be hitting golf balls into the sea or riding a stationary bicycle for miles. In the evening, the couple can enjoy drinks while eating a romantic dinner and perhaps go see a show, followed by a romantic evening back in their suite, knowing they do not have to answer to an alarm clock. Traveling once retired can be similar to a second honeymoon.
