When it starts to get cold the birds head south for the winter. A lot of seniors do the same thing to stay out of the cold weather. When it starts to get hot in the south the birds and the seniors start heading north. This is how these seniors got the name “snowbirds.”
There are two ways for the snowbirds to live in the south and the north comfortably. One is to get a motor home and drive back and forth. This works out great if you don’t want to have a lawn or yard to take care of. All you have to do is to find a motor park and you are set. Most parks will have electric hookups, sewer dump, and supply water. If you get tired of the park you are at you can drive off and find another. A lot of seniors will have friends and try to stay next to each other. The other option is to have a home in both places, or to rent a place. This will give you more of a homey feel than the motor home, but keeps you in the same place every year.
This lifestyle has some great advantages, like being able to enjoy outdoor activities year round without the fear of the cold weather. You also get to develop friendships in both the north and south. One problem is you never really belong to a permanent community. This can be hard to get use too. You don’t have to jump in all the way at first. You can try it one time and if you like it keep going. The best thing you can do is keep an open mind and make the best of every situation.
